“My Favorite Uncle!”

It was nice to see Palm Beach recently recognize one of Alice DeLamar's greatest friends and recipients of her generosity - South Florida architect Addison Mizner. Celebrating what would have been his 150th birthday on December 12th, the mayor of Palm Beach declared the month "Addison Mizner Month" - complete with a swanky soiree at Via Mizner courtyard. How Alice would have been overjoyed! Not sure she would have attended the crowded affair but undoubtedly would have hosted a more intimate gathering at her "Addison and Alice-designed" 1425 S. Ocean that evening. She would have been sure to make Addison feel loved and idolized masking the fact she single handedly resurrected his career that took an abrupt downward turn in 1928. Alice came up with an idea and bankrolled the publication of a book celebrating Addison's 'creative genius'. Relentless in selling $300 advance copies for the deluxe edition, Alice took on the project wholeheartedly, hired prizewinning photographer Frank E. Geisler, as well as convinced investigative journalist Ida Tarbell to write the tome's forward. Alice selected each of the photographs for the book, penned the captions and administered all proceeds for the man she adored and thought of as a favored uncle. Long life Addison Mizner....thanks to Alice DeLamar.
