Letting loose the hounds…

Almost a year has passed since I discovered this notable woman and progress has been made to find the mysterious, mislaid, misplaced, unaccounted for, and essentially lost autobiographical manuscript of Alice Antoinette DeLamar. Who is Alice?

Alice Antoinette DeLamar (1895-1983) became a gold mining heiress at the ripe and eligible age of 23 and grew up to become a significant patron of the arts during Midcentury America.

Financially backing and emotionally supporting the likes of famed choreographer George Balanchine, jazz great Dave Brubeck, sculptor Isamu Noguchi, ballerinas Tanny LeClerq and Tamara Geva, actors Barbarba Baxley, June Havoc, and record producer and musician John H. Hammond, Alice helped keep the artistic and intellectual community of the era alive and well.  Intensely private, yet highly cultured and well traveled, Alice DeLamar left behind a rich legacy without much, if any, acclaim.

My goal is to change that – one blog post at a time.
